PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College men's hockey team has announced a new partnership with the Westchester Warriors Youth Hockey Program to raise funds in support of
the Maria Fareri Children's Hospital to fight children's cancer.
"We are thrilled to partner with the Westchester Warriors and their foundation to not only raise awareness and funds, but to show our hockey program's support for those facing a tough battle," said
David Turco, head coach of the Manhattanville College men's hockey team. "Together, we will make a difference!"
The Westchester Warriors Hockey organization has been partners with Maria Fareri since 2015, and over the past eight years has driven fundraising efforts to help raise more than $500,000 to aid the hospital's efforts in the ongoing battle against pediatric cancer.
"The Westchester Warriors – including its over 100 current families – feel so fortunate to have the support of Manhattanville College, men's hockey coach Dave Turco, and the entire Manhattanville College hockey program," said Denis Dufresne, co-founder of the Westchester Warriors. "We believe that our new partnership will bring even greater awareness to our Westchester Warriors mission of finding a cure for cancer through our support of the pediatric oncology group at Maria Fareri Children's Hospital."
The partnership with Manhattanville College men's hockey is just the latest of numerous collaboration efforts Westchester Warriors has made with both local and national organizations. The program has worked with Murray's Skating Center in Yonkers, the Brewster Ice Arena, Terry Conners Rink of Stamford, Crotty's Cheesesteaks of New Rochelle, Pure Hockey and the National Hockey League. Through their corporate sponsors, as well as the generous donations from throughout the tri-state area, the staff of Maria Fareri Children's Hospital and the support of the City of Yonkers and Mayor Mike Spano, the Westchester Warriors have been able to generate invaluable support of one of the nation's leading pediatric cancer research and care centers.
Through the collaboration between Valiants men's hockey and the Westchester Warriors, the two programs will be working in tandem to generation enthusiasm for both organizations through events and efforts while using hockey to fight pediatric cancer.
The first of these partnerships will take place on Saturday, February 4
th as the Valiants return home to the Playland Ice Casino. Manhattanville men's hockey will be collecting donations for Westchester Warriors as the team takes on Lebanon Valley College in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference matchup at 3 p.m.
"Thank you Manhattanville College – coaches players and families – for joining us in this fight," said Dufresne. "Together, we directly help children and families impacted by cancer while support the groundbreaking research that may one day lead to a cure."
