Women's Soccer Scores Season-High Four Goals in Win Over Saint Joseph's Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – A dominant effort from the Manhattanville College women's soccer attack launched 37 shots in a 4-0 win over Saint Joseph's Brooklyn on Sunday afternoon. The win moves the Valiants to 4-3-1 overall and accounts for the team's first win in conference play, now sporting a 1-1-1 Skyline mark.

The Valiants took 15 total shots in the first half, putting seven on target. Manhattanville was able to maintain possession of the ball for the majority of the opening 45, logging five shots across the opening 13 minutes. Jennifer Xiong (Connelly Springs, N.C./East Burke) and Nadia Parisi's (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Lakeland) attempts were able to go on target, successfully stopped by Julia Marin in the Bears' net. Over the duration of the half, Skyla Marrone (East Northport, N.Y./St. Anthony's), Megan Leser (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining), Stephanie Sanchez (Rye, N.Y./The Masters School) and Parisi would combine for five more shots on target as Marin stood tall in the face of the relentless pressure. The Bears were held to just two shot attempts, both off the boot of Ashley Pintado, but both flew left of the target. Despite the Valiants controlling the flow of the game, the game remained scoreless heading into the halftime break.

The attack effort continued to put the foot on the gas with eight shots in the first 12 minutes coming out of the break. The pressure finally broke through in the 60th minute as Mia Castaneda (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) chipped a shot in past Marin to put the Valiants up 1-0 against her former team, her fourth of the year.

The goal opened up the doors as the Valiants netted three more tallies across the final 22 minutes. Kelly Barrera (Port Chester, NY/Port Chester High School) slotted her first of the year in the 68th minute before Jennifer Xiong (Connelly Springs, N.C./East Burke) struck twice in the 84th and 88th minutes. The graduate midfielder has now scored three times across the Valiants' least three games.

In all, 17 different Valiants recorded a shot attempt in the win. Parisi's six total shot attempts led the team, while Barrera ended the game with five. Alessia Cioffi (Pawling, N.Y./Pawling) took four shots coming in off the bench, putting all four on target in her 28 minutes on the field.

Macey Girard (Branford, Conn./Branford) did not face a shot on target as she earned her fourth win of the season with 88:44 on the field. Nicole Camacho (Bronx, N.Y./Riverdale Kingsbridge Academy) made her collegiate debut by taking to the field for the final 1:16.

The Valiants took all nine corner kicks in the game.
