PURCHASE, N.Y. - Off the heels of an attacking barrage totaling 54 shots, the Manhattanville College women's soccer team defeated Purchase in the women's soccer edition of the Battle of Anderson Hill Road, 7-0, on Tuesday evening. The Valiants now reside at 5-4-2 on the season with an even mark of 2-2-2 in conference play.
The Valiants took 30 shots in the first half, ten of which were on target. Kelly Barrera (Port Chester, NY/Port Chester High School) started off her first career hat trick in the 24th minute after Skyla Marrone (East Northport, N.Y./St. Anthony's) found Barrera in the box, putting home the first goal of the match. She then followed up with another just four minutes later, after Stephanie Sanchez (Rye, N.Y./The Masters School) beat the Panthers' backline, registering a shot-on-goal, when Barrera was there to clean it up with her left foot, pinning the contest at 2-0.
Kailey Roxo (Seymour, Conn./Seymour) then scored her first collegiate goal minutes later, off an assist from Barrera as the Valiant attack did not let off the gas. Manhattanville would make it 4-0 before the halftime whistle as Natalie Aracena (Bronx, N.Y./Riverdale Kingsbride Academy) found the back of the net from a set piece following a corner kick, as the ball fell to her left foot after a Jennifer Xiong (Connelly Springs, N.C./East Burke) deflection.
Kelly Barrera (Port Chester, NY/Port Chester High School) then capped off her career night in the 83rd minute, once again finding the netting after cleaning up a Mia Castaneda (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) shot saved by Carolyn Hough, to put the Valiants up 5-0. The duo would connect again minutes later as Casteneda calmly slotted home a goal into the bottom right corner from a Barrera-centering pass, for Barrera's eighth point of the night. Evelyn Zumba (Peekskill, N.Y./Peekskill) would pin the contest at 7-0 shortly after, cleaning up a save by new goalkeeper Rowe Davenport, for her first collegiate goal.
Barrera's performance made her the 12th player in program history to record eight or more points in a game, the first since Aracena notched eight points against Old Westbury in 2021.
Macey Girard (Branford, Conn./Branford) kept a clean sheet with three saves for 87:30 after she was substituted off in favor of Nicole Camacho (Bronx, N.Y./Riverdale Kingsbridge Academy) for her first action, in a night filled with firsts for the Valiants.
All told, 15 different Valiants registered a shot in the contest with Xiong's seven leading the pack. Barrera, Roxo, Jenna Moraglia (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford), and Alessia Cioffi (Pawling, N.Y./Pawling) all registered six shots, with the latter two coming off the bench to tally those statistics.
The Valiants also held the corner kick advantage eight to three.
