Women's Tennis Sweeps Sarah Lawrence on Senior Day

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Kicking off the first of the fall's Senior Day ceremonies, the Manhattanville College women's tennis team celebrated the Class of 2024 with a 9-0 sweep of Sarah Lawrence on Friday afternoon. The Valiants improve to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the Skyline Conference with the win, entering the final weekend of the regular season third in the conference standings.

Prior to the first serves, the Valiants celebrated seniors Bea Pretnar (Mohegan Lake, N.Y.) and Sara King (Schenectady, N.Y./Scotia-Glenville) for their contributions to the women's tennis program as the duo were joined by family and friends on the court.

After the celebrations, the team turned its attention towards their conference opponent. Suzi Doyle (Devon, England/Exeter College) and Addison-Mercedes Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) got the day started with an 8-0 win over Ghiyan Dornelly and Chloe Cohen in the No. 2 Flight. Shortly after, King and Elizabeth Dolce (Bronx, N.Y./Riverdale Kingsbridge Academy) wrapped up an 8-0 win of their own on Court 3 against Mary DeSouza and Nitika Kamath. Over on the top court, Pretnar and Keto Karkashadze (Tbilisi, Georgia/New School International) held off Simi Rao and Sasha Conner with an 8-5 victory.

King continued her great Senior Day performance as the first to secure a singles win, defeating Kamath 6-0, 6-1 on Court No. 5. Ortiz then logged a 6-1, 6-4 win over Dornelly in the No. 3 flight while Karkashadze blanked Cohen 6-0, 6-0 on Court 4. Dolce then handled business in the No. 6 showing with a 6-3, 6-0 besting of Mary DeSouza. Pretnar would win her first set against Rao in the No. 1 flight 7-5 before Rao retired due to injury, leaving Doyle and Conner as the last remaining action on the second court.
