PURCHASE, N.Y. - In the rain filled festivities, the Manhattanville College men's soccer team earned themselves a win on senior day, 2-0, against Mount Saint Mary on Saturday afternoon. The Valiants now sit at 4-3-6, with a still unbeaten 4-0-4 record in conference play.
Prior to kickoff, the Valiants honored their three seniors, Jackson Ayres (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep), Luis Granados (Pasadena, Calif./St. Francis), and Sebastian Testa (Clermont, Fla./East Ridge) for their contributions and accolades with a senior day celebration.
Granados earned his third shutout of the season, tallying five saves in a full ninety minutes of action. The senior brought his season saves total to 56 with a 0.812 save percentage on the season.
Manhattanville controlled the pace of play from the kickoff, recording eight shots in the first half. The Valiants first chance of the game came from the foot of Joseph Kresse (Goshen, NY/Goshen High School), who tried to place the ball in the bottom right corner but saw it parried away by Knights netminder Caesar Martinez. The next chance for the Vals came minutes later, as Michael Mezzina (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Morris Catholic) saw his attempt turned away by Martinez. The contest would hold scoreless into the half as the Knights defensive efforts held the Valiants scoreless.
Manhattanville would break the deadlock early into the second half, as a miscue from the MSMC keeper turned into a free kick, with Matt Rabadi (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) stepping up to hit a strike on the ground into the left side netting of the goal, putting the Valiants up 1-0.
Keanu Stingone (Kew Gardens, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) had a chance to put the Valiants up by two goals, as he broke through the backline, finding himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but having his shot blocked by a Knights defender to keep the score at one to nil. Stingone would redeem himself later in the contest, after Demba Cham (Bronx, NY/World View High School) played a through ball to find Stingone one-on-one with the goaltender again, but this time he calmly slotted it home for the Valiants to mount the 2-0 lead. That score would hold as the Valiants notched themselves a victory for their seniors.
Manhattanville held the advantage in shots, 23-11, also leading in shots on goal, 9-5.
Manuel Morales (Madrid, Spain/International College Spain) tied with Stingone for a game-high four shots off the back of his Skyline Rookie of the Week honors. Mezzina, Arjan Delija (Irvington, N.Y./Irvington), and Anthony Mendez (Baltimore, MD/Concordia Prep) followed suit with three and two shots, respectively.
The Valiants led in the corner kick department, 9-2.
