Men's Soccer Knocks Off Yeshiva 2-0 on Saturday Night

TEANECK, N.J. – The Manhattanville College men's soccer team defeated Yeshiva University on Saturday night by a final of 2-0. With the win, the Valiants enter the final week of the regular season in second in the conference standings, standing at 6-3-6 overall and 6-0-4 in the Skyline Conference.

The Valiants scored twice in the second half to earn the win. Manhattanville dominated in the first half, outshooting the Maccabees 9-0. The Vals put three of those shots on target, but all three were denied by Kellian Marty.

The offensive pressure would finally pay off for Manhattanville in the 47th minute. Michael Mezzina (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Morris Catholic) let a shot rip from 30 yards out and tucked the ball into top right corner of the net, beating a diving Marty to put the Valiants on the board with his first goal of the season.

The Valiants continued to protect their lead, ultimately adding an insurance tally in the 76th minute courtesy of Jostyn Blanco (Norwalk, CT/Brien Mcmahon High School) by way of Nico Del Vescovo (Flanders, N.J./Mount Olive).

While the Maccabees were able to generate chances against the Valiant defense in the second half with six shots, the Valiants once again controlled the majority of the chances with 11 attempts. Yeshiva finished with one shot on net, an Asher Martin attempt in the 67th minute, but Luis Granados (Pasadena, Calif./St. Francis) denied it for his fifth shutout of the season, his second clean sheet in a row. The senior's goals against average dips to 1.08 on the year.

Mezzina, Matt Rabadi (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) and Cole Weiner (Saint James, N.Y./Smithtown H.S. East) led the Valiants' offensive effort with three shots apiece. Rabadi put a team-leading two shots on target as part of his performance.

Corners came at a premium, with the Valiants having two of the three chances.
