Field Hockey Notches Third Win, Defeating Anna Maria 3-1

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College field hockey team got their third win of the season against Anna Maria College, 3-1 in their nonconference finale. With the victory, the Valiants improved to 3-8 on the season.

The Amcats would start the game off hot, working two penalty corners within the first five minutes of play. The Valiants would then respond with one of their own at 7:44. Julia Huertas (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) would insert the ball and pass from Fiona Doherty (Clarkstown, N.Y./Clarkstown South) to Alyssa Monahan (East Fishkill, NY/John Jay High School). She would fire it at net before Huertas would get her stick on the ball to tally the goal. She would record her first collegiate goal of the season. Anna Maria and Manhattanville would both log three shots through the first quarter.

It would be a scoreless second quarter as the Valiants would only fire off four shots, while they would hold the Amcats without a shot.

The second half would showcase Manhattanville's offensive and defensive depth as the Valiants would start out with a quick goal from the team's leading scorer, Megan Keaveney (Clarkstown, N.Y./Clarkstown South) at 31:06. The goal would be assisted by Felicity Williams (Glens Falls, N.Y./Glens Falls). Shortly after, Williams would notch one of her own at 40:05 off a dish from Keira Guinan (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) to go up, 3-0. The best part of this sequence would come from an Anna Maria penalty stroke from Madison-Marie Romano. In net, Florence Harrison (Melbourne, Australia/Balwyn High School) would secure her best and craziest save of the season, and potentially her career. The Amcats' Nicole Lacoste would score their lone goal a few minutes later.

The final 15 minutes would be a back-and-forth game for the Valiants and the Amcats as they recorded four shots and two shots, respectively. As the clock ticked down, Manhattanville would come out victorious, 3-1.

Harrison got the start in net for the home squad, playing 45 minutes and making five saves while only giving up the Amcats' lone goal. Lidia Vasquez-Sinisi (Selden, N.Y./Newfield) would get one save through 15 minutes of play.

Anna Maria would hold a 10-7 advantage in penalty corners throughout the contest.

The Valiants are back in action on GoValiants.com Field on Saturday, Oct. 14 against St. Mary's College of Maryland at 11 a.m.
