RYE, N.Y. - After falling behind a 7-0 lead with five goals allowed in the second period, the Manhattanville College men's hockey team succumbed to the offensive success of Wilkes, falling 9-1 on Saturday afternoon at Playland Ice Casino. The Valiants fall to 2-4-0, residing at 2-2-0 in UCHC play on the season.
Wilkes scored five times in the second period, two of which came with a man advantage, as their power play unit could not be tamed, sporting a 4-for-5 clip and tallying nine shots with the extra skater.
The Colonels would jump out to the lead early in the contest, after Teague Porter stood in the crease and redirected a shot, finding the back netting 04:56 into the match. Wilkes would take a 2-0 lead after Billy Berry found his first tally of the contest in the 15:57 mark of the first period, having the Colonels head into the first intermission with the two-goal advantage.
The floodgates would open in the second period for Wilkes, after just over a minute into play Berry would net his brace, commencing the Colonels' five-goal spree. Matt Carlson, Jimmy O'Kane, Miles Harrington, and Daniel Nau all tallied goals to push the score to 7-0 in Wilkes' favor to take the contest into the second intermission.
Dan Barry (St. Louis, Missouri/Vermont Lumberjacks (EHL)) would generate the lone offense in the game for the Valiants, finding his constellation goal 04:45 into the third period on a feed from
Mitchell Watson (Calgary Alberta, Canada/Canmore Eagles (AJHL)) and
Corey Popowcer (Parkland, Fla./Vermont Lumberjacks (EHL)). Wilkes would answer back with two more scores of their own, to have the score show 9-1 as the final horn blew.
Despite allowing five goals in the second period, the Valiants held the shot advantage in the period 21-18. Jack Perna shut the door on every attempt from the Manhattanville offense but one, registering 23 saves in the contest.
The Valiants would have two netminders spend time in the crease, with
Sebastian Woods (Limehouse, Ontario, Canada/Utica Jr. Comets (NCDC)) and
William Billequey (Montreal, Quebec/Vermont Lumberjacks (EHL)) both totaling 16 saves, suiting up for 31 and 29 minutes, respectively.
Manhattanville led in the faceoffs department, holding the 43-32 advantage over their counterparts.
Lane Paddison (100 Mile House, Canada/Canmore Eagles (AJHL)) paced all skaters with 14 faceoff wins, with fellow center
Elijah Devereaux (Webster, N.Y./Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks (NA3HL)) following suit with ten wins.
