Men’s Hockey Falls 2-1 Against Stevenson

STEVENSON, Md. - The Manhattanville College men's hockey team faced another lethal second period, falling 2-1 to Stevenson on the road, Friday night at Reisterstown Sportsplex. With the loss, the Valiants now slip to 2-5-0 on the season, with a 2-3-0 mark in conference play.

It was a closely contested affair in the first period, as neither team could find the back of the net, the Mustangs held the shots on goal advantage in the period, 12-7. The Valiants generated three power play opportunities in the first twenty minutes, as they couldn't capitalize with the man advantage for a 0-for-3 go-around in the period.

The second period is where the scoring floodgates opened, as the Mustangs put up a tally in their favor first on the scoreboard. Blake Benson sounded the horn with 06:36 elapsed in the second period to put Stevenson ahead 1-0. Shortly after, the Valiants would fix their power-play woes, as Noah Bradley (Lancaster, Pa./Philadelphia Revolution (EHL)) fired home a shot from Dan Barry (St. Louis, Missouri/Vermont Lumberjacks (EHL)) and Corey Popowcer (Parkland, Fla./Vermont Lumberjacks (EHL)), to even the contest at one all. Stevenson would answer back just four minutes later, as Eric Olson would finish the sequence from Zach Egber and Nick Dineen for the decisive goal in the contest, putting the Mustangs atop 2-1.

Manhattanville spared no effort trying to even the score, as they paced their counterparts in the shots on goal department, 11-9. The Stevenson defensive unit would rise to the occasion, turning away all shots faced in the period. Mustangs' netminder Ty Outen would finish with 29 saves on the night, shutting the door on all but one of the Valiants' efforts.

Sebastian Woods (Limehouse, Ontario, Canada/Utica Jr. Comets (NCDC)) turned in a season-high performance in the crease, saving 33 shots, as the sophomore brought his total on the season to 156 saves for a .891 save percentage.

The Mustangs held the advantage in faceoffs, 43-31, while also just barely holding the advantage in shots on goal, 35-30.
