Men's Tennis Bested by Baruch in Non-Conference Tilt

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Taking to the historic courts of the U.S. National Tennis Center on Friday afternoon, the Manhattanville College men's tennis team was bested by Baruch by a final score of 7-2. The Valiants fall to 0-4 overall with the loss, opening the spring scheduled 0-2.

The Valiants were able to notch one point in both doubles and singles play. Manhattanville would be victorious in the No. 3 Double position with the duo of Dylan Crowley (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) and Max Moeller (Crestwood, N.Y./Iona Prep) notching an 8-3 win over Philip Dwan and Liam Cooper. James Hourihan (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) and Weston Goodwin (Freeport, Maine/Freeport) were bested in the top flight 8-2 by Christopher Tham and Nicholas Santiago. Luis Gonzalez (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) and Shiel Loganandan brought the No. 2 Doubles battle to the brink by forcing a tiebreaker, but the pair would fall to Jim Bauer and Juan Paredes 8-7 after the 7-5 breaker decision.

Goodwin notched the lone singles win for the Valiants, knocking off Paredes in the No. 3 position 6-4, 7-6. Despite their losses, Crowley and Derwin Guzman (Harlem, N.Y./Frederick Douglass Academy) put up solid fights in their draws in the No. 5 and No. 6 positions. Crowley fell to George Arteaga after forcing a tiebreaker in the first set, ultimately falling 6-7, 4-6. Guzman, meanwhile, would split the first two sets with Mathias Davola, falling 3-6 in the opener before bouncing back with a 6-3 win. The deciding third set was another tighly-fought battle, with Baruch's Davila ultimately claiming the point in the sixth position with an 11-9 win.

Hourihan was defeated by Tham 0-6, 1-6 in the No. 1 flight, while Loganadan fell to Santiago 1-6, 2-6 in the fourth position. Gonzalez fell fro Bauer in the opening set of the second flight 2-6 before retiring in the second set trailing 0-4.
