Men's Tennis Blanks Mount Saint Mary in Skyline Opener

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Looking to defend their 2022 Skyline Conference Championship, the Manhattanville College men's tennis team opened up conference play on Sunday in dominant fashion, logging a clean 9-0 sweep of Mount Saint Mary. The win is the Valiants' first of the 2022-23 campaign, improving to 1-4 overall.

The Valiants did not drop a single game in the victory, winning all three doubles flights by 8-0 finals while taking all six singles matchups with scores of 6-0, 6-0.

The day began with doubles play, with the duo of Jaime Peredo (Uruapan, México/Instituto Morelos) and Derwin Guzman (Harlem, N.Y./Frederick Douglass Academy) finishing their match in the No. 3 position against Dylan Joslin and Corey Sowers first. Dylan Crowley (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) and Vincent Liberatore (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) followed suit with their 8-0 sweep in the No. 2 flight over Christopher Closi and J.T. Maccarrone. The top flight was the last to finish, but Weston Goodwin (Freeport, Maine/Freeport) and Shiel Loganadan (New York, N.Y./Mary McDowell Friends) made it a clean sweep of doubles play with their shutout over Chris Shea and Matthew Ropiak.

Singles action played out in a similar vein as the Valiants continued to roll. Liberatore was the first to take care of business in the No. 6 position, defeating Joslin 6-0, 6-0. Peredeo blanked Maccarrone in the fifth position before Loganadan closed out his sweep of Owen Gallagher in No. 3 Singles. Goodwin held Ropiak scoreless in the No. 2 flight while Hourihan put the finishing touches on the dominant day with his 6-0, 6-0 win over Shea in the top position.
