MAHWAH, N.J. – The hosting Roadrunners put up 12 runs over the opening three innings as the Manhattanville College baseball team fell to Ramapo on Tuesday evening by a final of 20-6. The loss drops the Valiants to 9-13 on the season.
It was a rough day at the office for
Matthew Messina (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) as the senior was tagged for 10 of the Roadrunners' runs in his start. Messina went 2.1 innings, giving up 10 hits as the Ramapo bats got to him early. The Roadrunners scored three runs in each of the first two innings before hanging a six spot on the board in the third.
Despite the 12-0 hole they found themselves in, the Valiants were able to put together a strong inning at the plate in the fifth inning. A leadoff walk by
Jake Parisi (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach) followed by singles from
Michael Matica (Pleasantville, N.Y./Pleasantville) and
Deven Silva (Yonkers, N.Y./Mount Saint Michael Academy) loaded the bases.
Gabe Astrologo (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic Prep) broke up the shutout as he brought Parisi home on a flyout before
Frank Delgado (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South) delivered the big hit, a bases loaded double that cleared the bases with three more runs.
Tyler Mandel (Scarsdale, N.Y./Scarsdale) would plated Delgado two batters later with the team's fifth run of the frame.
Unfortunately, the Roadrunners still had some more hits in their bats, scoring once in the bottom of the fifth before piecing together another six run inning in the sixth to jump ahead 19-5. The Valiants scored one last run in the eighth following a bases loaded walk by Astrologo before the Roadrunners tacked one more on in the bottom half.
Ian Murray (Commack, N.Y./Commack) was the first reliever out of the pen for the Valiants, going 2.2 innings while allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits. He would strike out a team-high three in the game.
Jackson Branigan (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) went two innings, allowing four runs on five hits, while
Myles Durney (Port Chester, N.Y./Port Chester) pitched the final inning with a run allowed on a hit and a punchout.
Parisi was the only Valiant with multiple hits, recording a pair of singles while drawing three walks. He would also add the Valiants' only stolen base of the day.
