PURCHASE, N.Y. – Making the short journey along Anderson Hill Road for a Skyline Conference showdown, the Manhattanville College men's tennis team improved to 4-0 in conference play with a 7-2 victory over neighboring Purchase College. The win puts the Valiants above .500 for the first time on the year, now 5-4 overall.
The Valiants have now won each of their last 14 regular-season conference matches, a streak extending back to April 2021.
A clean sweep in doubles play put the Valiants in the driver's seat in the match. In the top flight,
James Hourihan (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) and
Weston Goodwin (Freeport, Maine/Freeport) notched an 8-5 victory over the tandem of Julian Szuper and Eli Palagatshev.
Max Moeller (Crestwood, N.Y./Iona Prep) and
Dylan Crowley (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) emerged victorious in No. 2 Double against Ben Joory and Yuta Kawamura, 8-6, while
Vincent Liberatore (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) and
Derwin Guzman (Harlem, N.Y./Frederick Douglass Academy) took the No. 3 match over Steve Mains and Oliver Culliton, 8-2.
The Valiants got a quick pair of 6-0, 6-0 wins to open up singles action. Crowley took care of business against Culliton in the No. 5 matchup, followed shortly after by Peredo blanking Mains in No. 6 Singles action.
Shiel Loganadan (New York, N.Y./Mary McDowell Friends), coming off his Skyline Player of the Week appointment, kept up his winning ways by defeating Joory 6-3, 6-3 in No. 4 play.
Luis Gonzalez (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) earned the Valiants' final point of the match with a 6-3, 6-2 win against Kawamura in the No. 3 draw. Hourihan fell to Szuper in the top flight, 4-6, 5-7, while Goodwin was bested by Palagatshev 1-6, 2-6 in the No. 2 Singles play.
