Men's Tennis Wins Regular Season Home Finale Over Yeshiva

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Meeting for the first time since their 2022 Skyline Conference Championship Finals match, the Manhattanville College men's tennis team was victorious against Yeshiva on Wednesday evening, defeating the Maccabees by a final of 7-2. The win is Manhattanville's seventh in a row, improving the team's overall record to 7-4 while remaining perfect atop the skyline standing with a record of 6-0.

Play began with the Valiants taking two of the three doubles draws. In the top flight, James Hourihan (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) and Weston Goodwin (Freeport, Maine/Freeport) made quick work of Kobi Ciment and Yoni Mayer, 8-1. In No. 3 Doubles, Max Moeller (Crestwood, N.Y./Iona Prep) and Dylan Crowley (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) knocked off Eitan Jeselsohn and Samuel Pasternak by a final of 8-3. No. 2 Doubles would be the last to conclude as Luis Gonzalez (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) and Shiel Loganadan (New York, N.Y./Mary McDowell Friends) were locked in a back-and-forth battle with Michael Natkin and Mark Adler. The match would go to a breaker tied at 7-7, with Yeshiva earning their first point of the match with a 7-5 decision in the tiebreaker to take the draw by a final of 8-7.

Turning to singles action, Goodwin earned the first point for the Valiants with a 6-0, 6-0 victory in the No. 3 flight over Mayer. Gonzalez would shake off the marathon doubles loss by earning the win in the No. 2 flight, defeating Ciment 6-0, 6-1. Jaime Peredo (Uruapan, México/Instituto Morelos) then earned the deciding point as he bested Israel Bussu 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 6 draw. While the Valiants had enough points to earn the victory, the remaining three singles matches were played to completion, with Manhattanville taking two of the three tight matchups. In the top flight, Hourihan bounced back from a 3-6 first set loss to Natkin to take the second set 6-0, winning the third set breaker 10-6. Loganadan battled with Jeselsohn in the No. 4 position, taking the first set 6-3 before falling 6-7 (5-7) in the second. Like Hourihan before him, the junior would emerge victorious in the deciding set, winning 10-5. Crowley would be the last to wrap up play against Adley in the No. 5 position, falling 6-7 (3-7), 6-7 (3-7).
