Women’s Tennis Opens 2023 Season with Sweep of John Jay

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's tennis team kicked off their 2023 season with a 9-0 victory over visiting John Jay College on Tuesday evening at Manhattanville Tennis Courts.

In the doubles matches, Suzanna Doyle (Devon, England/Exeter College) and Addison-Mercedes Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y.) started the scoring by defeating Dakota Himaya and Cindy Liguicota, 8-1 on Court 2, leading into Elizabeth Dolce (Bronx, N.Y./Riverdale Kingsbridge Academy) and Sara King (Schenectady, N.Y./Scotia-Glenville) downing Riya Shah and Danny Canning, 8-3, in the No. 3 flight. Keto Karkashadze (Tbilisi, Georgia/New School International) and Bea Pretnar (Mohegan Lake, N.Y./Soundview Prep) swept the doubles portion of the match by besting Gloria Glenn and Sarina Moi, 8-4 in the top flight. pinning the score in favor of the Valiants 3-0.

In the singles portion of the contest, Doyle toppled Glenn in 6-0, 6-0 fashion in No. 3 play, leading into Dolce downing Canning with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of her own in flight No. 6. The No. 4 singles match between Karkashadze and Liguicotasaw the Valiant sophomore  Karkashadze notch the victory with a 6-0, 6-0 result. King bested Shah 6-3, 6-0 on Court 5, Ortiz knocked off Himaya in the second flight, while Pretnar capped off the clean sweep with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Moi in the top position..

The Valiants now look towards Ramapo College, when they take on the Roadrunners at Ramapo Athletic Center on Sept. 19 at 4 p.m.
