Women's Tennis Falls in Road Match at Ramapo

MAHWAH, N.J. – The Manhattanville College women's tennis team fell in non-conference play on Tuesday evening, dropping a 6-3 match at Ramapo College. The Valiants now stand at 1-1 overall on the year.

The Valiants would take one of the three doubles contests, emerging victorious in the No. 2 flight. The tandem of Suzanna Doyle (Devon, England/Exeter College) and Addison-Mercedes Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y.) held off Kassie Britt and Anna Bysiek by a final of 8-6. In the top court, Bea Pretnar (Mohegan Lake, N.Y./Soundview Prep) and Keto Karkashadze (Tbilisi, Georgia/New School International) put in a hard fought effort against the Roadrunners' top pairing of Melaine Brentnall and Mackenzie Dates but came up just short, falling 6-8. In the third flight, Elizabeth Dolce (Bronx, N.Y./Riverdale Kingsbridge Academy) and Sara King (Schenectady, N.Y./Scotia-Glenville) teamed up and were defeated by Katie Obssuth and Tahlia Crescenzo, 2-8.

Manhattanville would earn two more wins in singles play, getting victories from their same players that found success in doubles action. In the No. 2 flight, Ortiz logged a 6-2, 6-1 win over Dates, while Doyle rolled past Britt 6-3, 6-0 in No. 3 Singles.

While the team would earn just the two points to close out he match, the Valiants got solid efforts on each court. Pretnar squared off with Brentnall in the top flight, falling 5-7, 6-7. Kakashadze was bested bt Bysiek 3-6, 6-7 over on Court Four, while in the No. 5 matchup, King fell to Obssuth 5-7, 2-6. Rounding out the action in the No. 6 flight, Dolce was bested by Crescenzo 5-7, 3-6.

The Valiants wrap up non-conference action for the fall on Thursday when they take on Lehman College at 3:30 p.m. in the Bronx.
