BRISTOL, R.I. – The Manhattanville College field hockey team was bested on the road at Roger Williams on Sunday, falling by an 8-1 final. The Valiants fall to 1-4 on the year with the loss.
The Hawks scored in each of the four quarters, scoring twice in each quarter. Rogier Williams struck twice within the opening 5:16 courtesy of goals from Chelsea King and Kelly Doherty. The home team remained in control for the remainder of the day, outshooting the Valiants 29-3.
The Valiants would be held without a shot until the second quarter, when
Megan Keaveney (Clarkstown, N.Y./Clarkstown South) fired a pair of quick back-to-back attempts but both were denied by Hannah Brazil. On the other side of the field, the Hawks scored twice more to taker a 4-0 halftime lead.
Manhattanville would remain without another shot until the fourth quarter when
Fiona Doherty (Clarkstown, N.Y./Clarkstown South) broke up the shutout in the closing minute of the action, notching the first goal of her collegiate career.
Cat Morgan (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay Senior) and
Lidia Vasquez-Sinisi (Selden, N.Y./Newfield) split time in the cage, each playing 30 minutes. Morgan got the start and played the fourth quarter, making four saves. Vasquez-Sinisi made five stops in her second and third quarters in goal.
Alyssa Monahan (East Fishkill, NY/John Jay High School) logged a defensive save in the second quarter, her second of the season.
Roger Williams held a 12-2 penalty corner advantage in the contest.
