Men's Hockey Bested By Nazareth, 5-2

RYE, N.Y. - The Manhattanville College men's hockey team fell to the visiting Golden Flyers of Nazareth, 5-2, in Friday's series opener at Playland Ice Casino. Following the result, the Valiants now sit at 4-12-0 overall and 4-8-0 in UCHC play.

Nazareth was able to build an early lead in the first stanza, while controlling the game in the face-off circle, touting a 38-27 disparity in the face-off department. The Golden Flyers used their dominance in the circle to pin the faceoff gap to 15-5 in the first period. 

Harrison Dumas light the lamp for the first tally of the night with 07:16 elapsed in the first period off assists from Hudson Nadasdi and Anthony Quinlivan. Nazareth would strike again just under two minutes later when Logan Tobias collected his first goal on the night from feeds from Kai Shen and Owen Heidelberger. The Valiants would answer back as AJ Bella (Norwalk, Conn./Connecticut Roughriders (EHL)) found his seventh goal on the season, putting the score at 2-1 in Nazareth's favor as the contest headed into the first intermission. 

In the second period, the Golden Flyers would convert on the power play, as Liam Beaudoin powered it home to take the 3-1 lead, having just six seconds left with the man advantage. 

The scoring resumed in the final period of play, as the Valiants pulled their netminder to create offensive opportunities with the man advantage, but Daisuke Egusa was able to flick it in for the Golden Flyers, bringing the score to 4-1 in their favor. The Valiants would net a consolation goal, as Raymond Speerbrecker (Revelstoke, British Columbia, Canada/Revelstoke Grizzlies (KIJHL)) buried the left-handed shot past the blocker side of the goaltender with 18:37 played in the third period. Tobias would net his brace off another empty net goal, to put the final score of the contest at 5-2. 

In the crease, Sebastian Woods (Limehouse, Ontario, Canada/Utica Jr. Comets (NCDC)) would end the day with 17 saves, bringing his season total to 383 saves for a .895 save percentage. 

Lane Paddison (100 Mile House, Canada/Canmore Eagles (AJHL)) paced the Valiants in the faceoff circle, totaling eleven faceoff wins, as Caden Eaton (Indian River, Mich./Cornwall Colts (CCHL)) followed suit with seven of his own. 

The Valiants could not convert their only power play of the night, logging three total shots. The Golden Flyers were able to convert on one of their two chances in the contest, with the aforementioned goal from Beaudoin.
