PURCHASE, N.Y. – Finishing up a game that started ten days ago, the Manhattanville University women's soccer team resumed play against Skyline foe Saint Joseph's Brooklyn on Tuesday afternoon to ultimately capture a 7-0 victory. The win has Manhattanville up to a 3-2-3 overall record and a 2-1-1 mark in conference play.
The Valiants and Bears had originally kicked off the contest back on Sept. 21 before the game was suspended in the 35
th minute due to Saint Joseph's Brooklyn being below the minimum of permitted roster players following multiple injuries. Manhattanville took a 2-0 lead prior to stoppage off goals from
Mia Castaneda (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) and
Stephanie Sanchez (Rye, N.Y./The Masters School), the latter assisted by
Drita Tinaj (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown).
The Bears made the pilgrimage back up to Purchase on Tuesday with a replenished squad to complete the remaining 55 minutes and change. While nothing of note would come of the duration of the first half, the Valiants traveled back to the present to fire on all cylinders in the closing 45.
The Valiants found the net five times to close out the contest, although it took some time for the relentless attack to find paydirt. After firing six shots in the first 18 minutes out of the break, Castaneda got back into the goal column with a penalty kick goal in the 64
th minute. In the 71
st,
Alexandra Brauer (Lake Grove, N.Y./St. John The Baptist Diocesan) finished off a feed from Sanchez for a tally that brings her season total up to three.
Six minutes later,
Megan Leser (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) scored as Sanchez once again collected the helper. While the goals from the contest are all credited to the original start date of the contest, Leser has now scored in her last two times on the field after netting a goal in Friday's win over Yeshiva.
Tinaj later scored her first college goal in the 79
th minute off a feed from Castaneda, while
Jennay Amaral (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) closed out the win with her first career tally with four minutes left to play.
Saint Joseph's did not log a shot attempt in the contest.
Macey Girard (Branford, Conn./Branford) played the first 69:09 in the split shutout, with
Alexa Bennett (Sparrowbush, N.Y./Port Jervis Senior) playing the closing 20:54.
In all, the Valiants recorded 41 total shot attempts, firing 21 on net. All nine corner kicks of the contest were awarded to Manhattanville.
