Women’s Soccer Stifled by St. Joseph’s-Long Island

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. - In their first taste of road conference play, the Manhattanville University women's soccer team were overcome by the Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's-Long Island, 2-0, on Wednesday night. With the result, the Valiants fall to 1-2-3, still searching for their first win in conference play.

As the first half unfolded, neither team could break the deadlock, as they both traded blows firing shots on net. After saving the first attempt faced her way, goaltender Macey Girard (Branford, Conn./Branford) broke the 200 save threshold in her career, becoming the ten Valiant all time to reach that mark.

The match would swing in the Golden Eagles favor, as they broke the scoreless tie 39 minutes into the contest, from the boot of graduate student CC Rosario after she finished off a feed from Emma Furey, putting the score at 1-0.

St. Joe's would continue more of the same into the second stanza, as they dwarfed the Valiants in shots on goal, 5-0. Manhattanville would find themselves playing with ten men from the 67th minute, as a second yellow was shown to a Valiant, forcing them to change their gameplan. Both sides would have opportunities until the Golden Eagles struck again, but it wasn't until the final minute of the play Alexis Pasciuta corralled a pass from Rosario, slotting it home for the insurance goal, seeing the final score sit at 2-0.

The aforementioned Girard played all ninety minutes in net for the Valiants, producing eight saves. She currently boasts a career-high 0.89 goals against average in her 2024 campaign.

Megan Leser (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) led the offensive attack for the Valiants, tallying five shots, while Alexandra Brauer (Lake Grove, N.Y./St. John The Baptist Diocesan) and Mia Castaneda (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) followed suit with three shots each.

All told, the Golden Eagles paced Manhattanville in shots, 18-13, as they also led in the corner kick department, 8-3.
