PALISADES PARK, N.J. – Recording their highest single-game goal total in the last five years, the Manhattanville University women's soccer team broke into the conference win column on Friday afternoon with a 17-0 victory over Yeshiva. The win improves the Valiants' overall record to 2-2-3 on the season with the team standing at 1-1-1 in Skyline Conference play.
The Valiants fired 46 total shots in the win, with 11 different players recording a goal and 15 collecting a point.
Alessia Cioffi (Pawling, N.Y./Pawling) and
Kelly Barrera (Port Chester, N.Y./Port Chester High School) had the leading efforts in what was a career day for a number of Valiants. The junior Cioffi finished with seven total points on a pair of goals and three assists, while senior Barrera collected the second hat trick of her career with three goals and an assist. They become the 17
th and 18
th players in program history to record seven or more points in a single game after Barrera had an eight-point outing last season against Purchase. The outing brings Barrera atop the Valiants' scoring leaderboard with 10 points on the year.
Stephanie Sanchez (Rye, N.Y./The Masters School) also found the netting three times, the junior's second hatty of her career. The three goals were Sanchez' first of the season.
Mia Castaneda (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) rounded out Manhattanville's multi-goal scorers on the day with he senior forward notching her second and third goals of the season.
Caitlin Ward (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown High School),
Ashley Irmscher (Saint James, N.Y./Smithtown East),
Ava Wade (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester) and
Megan Leser (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) each picked up their first goals of the season, while
Kailey Roxo (Seymour, Conn./Seymour),
Johanna Gibson (Brooklyn, N.Y./Edward R Murrow) and
Alexandra Brauer (Lake Grove, N.Y./St. John The Baptist Diocesan) joined in the offensive eruption with a goal apiece.
Jenna Moraglia (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) accounted for assists on three of the Valiants' scores to match Cioffi's total.
Alexa Fasce (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville High School),
Jennay Amaral (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville),
Avery Edwards (Sparrowbush, N.Y./Port Jervis), Ward, Gibson and Brauer each earned an assist.
The ball remained firmly on Yeshiva's defensive side of the field as the Valiant goalkeeping tandem of
Macey Girard (Branford, Conn./Branford) and
Alexa Bennett (Sparrowbush, N.Y./Port Jervis Senior) did not face a shot in the contest. Girard was credited with the win, playing 30:55 in the start, before Bennett occupied the cage for the closing 59:05 of play.
Yeshiva goalkeeper Simone Amkraut finished with 13 saves for the Maccabees.
