PURCHASE, N.Y. – Opening up a five-match home stretch, the Manhattanville University women's soccer team dropped a 5-0 decision to visiting Sarah Lawrence College on Saturday night. The loss drops the Valiants to 3-3-3 overall and 2-2-1 in the Skyline Conference.
A pair of early tallies put the Gryphons in control as Sarah Lawrence found the netting twice in the opening eight minutes. A Viktoria Balbin strike opened up the night two minutes after the opening whistle, while Lily Matalus doubled the Sarah Lawrence advantage at the 7:45 mark.
Despite the early hole, Manhattanville did well to generate their own chances, ultimately outshooting the Gryphons 8-6 in the half. Both teams put four balls on target across the opening 45, but Bella Vaca was able to turn away each shot she faced in the half to preserve the 2-0 lead.
The Gryphons earned more looks in the second, outshooting the Valiants 11-8 and adding a trio of insurance tallies in a three minute span. In the 49
th minute, Delaney Julianna finished a feed from Katey Beaver to put the visitors up by three. Beaver continued to serve as the playmaker two minutes later, assisting on a Chloe Barker tally. In the 52
nd minute, Barker repaid the favor by setting up Hannah Chaffin for the Gryphons' fifth and final strike of the night.
