IMMACULATA, Pa. - The Manhattanville University Field Hockey team took to the field this morning to compete in their first conference game of the season. Coming off an abundance of non-conference matchups in which they went 3-8, the Valiants were set to dive headfirst into conference play. Manhattanville ultimately fell to Immaculata in a 2-0 contest to fall to 3-9.
Immaculata struck first scoring in the first quarter of the contest. Scoring her eighth goal of the season, Alexis Andrada put the ball in the back of the cage with a pass from teammate Della George. Despite being outshot 10-1 in the first half, the Valiants were able to hold the Macs off for the remainder of the first quarter and the entire second quarter. Shannon Keena (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) put up the one and only shot of the first half for Manhattanville. Â
The Valiants picked up the pace opening the second half with three shots compared to their five in the third quarter. The Macs had more penalty corner opportunities logging three while the Valiants logged none as well. The third quarter remained scoreless for both teams heading into the fourth and final 15 minutes. Â
Advancing into the final 15-minute period of the contest, the score stood at 1-0, Immaculata. The scoreboard saw action just 40 seconds into the fourth quarter. Immaculata's Kailey Mayoros scored her second goal of the season making the score 2-0. The Valiants were unable to score in the final fourteen and a half minutes of play, closing the game with a final score of 2-0. Â
Hannah Doherty (Clarkstown, N.Y./Clarkstown South) put up an impressive nine saves throughout the contest, only allowing two goals from eighteen shots.Â
Alyssa Monahan (East Fishkill, NY/John Jay High School) led the charge with two goals while three other Valiants followed closely behind with one each.Â
Immaculata held a 6-1 advantage on penalty corners.Â
