Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y. – It was business as usual on Sunday afternoon for the Manhattanville University women's tennis team as the Valiants picked up a 7-0 sweep of Sarah Lawrence in Skyline Conference action. Manhattanville continues its best start in the last 20 years, now winners of eight straight with an overall record of 9-1 and a perfect mark in conference action at 4-0.
The Valiants took all three doubles matches to nab a 1-0 lead. The first duo to pick up the win was the No. 3 pairing of
Sara King (Schenectady, N.Y./Scotia-Glenville) and
Maria Gutierrez (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon), blanking the Gryphons' Caroline He and Hiba Raiz. Soon after, the top flight action wrapped with
Adrianna Filippelli (Mastic, N.Y./William Floyd) and
Amaya Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) notching a 6-1 win over Neomi Spellman and Josephine Jackson in No. 1 play. Manhattanville completed the sweep as
Suzi Doyle (Devon, England/Exeter College) and
Addison-Mercedes Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) took care of business in the No. 2 showing, defeating Zoe Kovac and Viha Shah 6-2.
Manhattanville kept rolling through singles play, with Gutierrez firing the opening salvo with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Raiz in the No. 6 flight.
Amaya Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) completed a 6-0, 6-0 win over Kovac on the No. 3 flight, ahead of King besting He on Court 5, 6-1, 6-1, to officially secure the win for Manhattanville with the fourth point of the match.
The rest of the Valiants kept the vibes rolling, with Doyle defeating Spellman 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 1 showing.
Addison-Mercedes Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) bested Shah 6-1, 6-1 in No. 4 play, while Filippelli completed a perfect outing by the Valiants in the No. 2 flight, defeating Jackson 7-5, 6-1.
