PURCHASE, N.Y. - Under the lights of GoValiants.com Field, the Manhattanville University men's soccer team was trampled by the visiting Mammoths, 7-1, on Wednesday night. With the result, the Valiants now see their record sit at 6-5-1, in the final non-conference tune-up contest.
The Mammoths opened the scoring less than three minutes after the opening whistle, when Mohammed Nuhu netted his first of three goals on the night, finishing off a feed from Riley Priddy, for the early lead. That same duo would strike again in the fifteenth minute to put Amherst in front with a two-goal margin. Nuhu would net his third just two minutes later, this time getting help from his defender Micah Valadez Bush, burying it away for the hattrick. The Mammoths notched another tally in the 27th minute from the boot of Adrian Trott, to push the score to a 4-0 disparity.
Manhattanville would net a constellation goal from the left foot of
Mason Chetti (Ronkonoma, N.Y./Connetquot), as the graduate student was able to put a move on the Mammoth defender, curling it home and beating the netminder on his near post. The lead would prove to be too much to overcome for the Valiants, as the Mammoths would continue to add to the scoresheet, eventually finding three more goals to see the final score sit at 7-1.
Amherst led the contest in shots, 22-9, as well as shots on goal, 9-2. Valiant efforts on goal came from Chetti and
Demba Cham (Bronx, NY/World View High School).
