Men's Soccer Declaws Bears, Extends Conference Unbeaten Streak to Twenty

PURCHASE, N.Y. - For the twentieth straight time since 2022, the Manhattanville University men's soccer team remains unbeaten in conference play, bounced back following the loss earlier in the week, against the visiting Bears of St. Joseph's-Brooklyn, 3-1. With the result, the Valiants now sit at 7-5-1, residing at 5-0 in conference play, sitting tied atop the Skyline standings with St. Joseph's-Long Island.

The unblemished streak started on Oct. 22, 2022, following a 3-0 win over Old Westbury, and now has spanned three different campaigns, eventually leading to a 2023 Skyline Championship.

To get to the mark of twenty, the Valiants opened the scoring in the first half after a foul in the 18-yard box gave Manhattanville a penalty kick opportunity. Jostyn Blanco (Norwalk, Conn./Brien Mcmahon High School) stepped up to the spot and placed the ball in the bottom right corner, giving the senior his fifth goal of the season. Later in the half, Tiernan McLaughlin (Yonkers, N.Y./Fordham Prep) would sub into the match, making an almost immediate impact, corralling a lofted through pass from the Valiant backline, giving it to Mason Chetti (Ronkonoma, N.Y./Connetquot) who used back-heel touch to set up McLaughlin, for a left-footed shot into the side netting, seeing the Valiants mount a 2-0 lead as the match headed into the second half.

As the second stanza kicked off, the Bears were able to slice in lead built by Manhattanville. St. Joe's Victor Naci was able to draw the Valiant netminder from their line, and chip the keeper to have the score show, 2-1. Manhattanville would later restore their two-goal cushion, from the left boot of Alec Pineda (Port Chester, N.Y./Port Chester). Pineda was able to power home the ball from a set piece, having the scoreboard show 3-1 for Manhattanville.

Luis Granados (Pasadena, Calif./St. Francis) spent all ninety minutes in goal for Manhattanville, tallying five saves on six shots faced.

Despite what the scoreboard showed, the Bears led the Valiants in shots and shots on goal, 12-10 and 6-5, respectively.
