Men’s Tennis Takes a Hard Fall in Fall Dual Opener, 7-0

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Manhattanville men's tennis team took to the courts this evening to face off against The University of Saint Joseph. For their third out of season match this fall, they were able to compete on thier home courts for the first time this 24-25 year. The score did not reflect the conceited efforts of the team in this match ultimately falling, 0-7.

Starting off with doubles play, Griffin Forberg (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Ludlowe) and Derwin Guzman (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglass Academy) took the No.1 spot while teammates Lev Uitterhoeve (Maastricht, The Netherlands/Porta Mosana College) and Mario Alcala () stood tall on the second court. The last to represent the Valiants on court No.3 were Justin White (Brooklyn, N.Y./Mary McDowell Friends School) and John Curtin (). The third pair finished first battling it out against Ryan Boucher and Jonathan Huot losing in straight sets 6-0. The first flight dueled with Mateus Silvestre and Rodrigo Torres dropping the match 6-2. The second flight finished last having the closest set disparity of doubles play. Uitterhoeve and Alcala competed against Marko Karpyuk and Thomas Ameral falling 6-4.

Heading into singles play down one point meant Manhattanville needed to turn on the jets. Fighting tooth and nail each match they were unable to deliver a win. Doubles partners White and Curtin finished first for the Valiants. Curtin fell to Bluejays junior Brett Hodas 6-1, 6-0. Following up was White falling to Boucher 6-1, 6-0. Forberg took to the No. 1 court for the Valiants also losing 6-0, 6-1 to competitor Torress. With three more flights to finish the current score stands at 4-0. Alcala completed his match next for the Valiants going head-to-head with Ameral losing 6-1, 6-4. The last two contenders of the day brought their matches to three sets. Guzman battled it out against Silvestre winning the first set 6-4, losing the second 6-2, and ultimately falling in a tiebreaker 11-9. Uitterhoeve was the final Valiant to finish duking it out with Bluejays Freshman Manuel Hernandez-Plaza. The first set was taken by Uitterhoeve sweeping 6-0. The second set he dropped 6-2. The tiebreaker was the closest Manhattanville has seen this entire match closing out at 8-6. This brings the final score of the match to 7-0.
