PURCHASE, N.Y. - Behind the three-goal tally from Mia Castaneda (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck), the Manhattanville University women's soccer team downed their cross-town rivals Purchase, 5-0, on Wednesday night. With the result, the Valiants now reside at 6-4-4 overall, sporting a 5-2-2 conference record, holding the sixth seed in the Skyline standings.
Castaneda struck first in the 39th minute, using the second stanza to net her other two markers, one from open play in the 49th minute and the final from the penalty spot just two minutes later.
Manhattanville fired twelve chances towards the goal before netting the aforementioned opening goal by Castaneda, finished off a feed from Stephanie Sanchez (Rye, N.Y./The Masters School) to take the lid off the net. The Valiants would attempt five more shots in the half, but the Panthers netminder was able to stand tall, turning away every effort.
As the second half started, Jenna Moraglia (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) was able to net her second goal of the season in the 48th minute, with a solo effort towards goal. Castaneda was able to push the score to 4-0 just a few minutes later with her two goals, rounding out the hat trick. Kailey Roxo (Seymour, Conn./Seymour) substituted onto the pitch, scoring ten minutes later after she finished off a play from Alessia Cioffi (Pawling, N.Y./Pawling), seeing the score sit at 5-0 in the Valiants favor as the final whistle blew.
Macey Girard (Branford, Conn./Branford) got the nod for the Valiants, spending 82 minutes between the posts and making way for Alexa Bennett (Sparrowbush, N.Y./Port Jervis Senior) to finish out the contest in goal.
All told, Manhattanville produced 32 shots, 17 of which were on the frame of the goal. Efforts were led by Casteneda with eight, followed by Cioffi with six, as Alexandra Brauer (Lake Grove, N.Y./St. John The Baptist Diocesan) tailed with four of her own. Stephanie Sanchez (Rye, N.Y./The Masters School), Jenny Amaral, Megan Leser (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) and Moraglia all totaled two shots, as Alexa Fasce (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville High School), Natalia Sanchez (Katonah, N.Y./Somers), Kailey Roxo (Seymour, Conn./Seymour), Olivia Watson (Walden, N.Y./Valley Central), Ashley Irmscher (Saint James, N.Y./Smithtown East), and Alicia Bibi (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough) paced behind with one shot apiece.
