Field Hockey Falls in Last Regular Season Game, 2-1

Gwynedd Valley, PA – Manhattanville University Field Hockey hit the road this afternoon for a 7:00pm game against Gwynedd Mercy University. Regardless of this loss, the Valiants still look ahead to playing in the Atlantic East Conference Championship semifinal game this Saturday.

To open the game, the first fifteen minutes of play were scoreless from both ends of the field. With a slow-paced offensive effort from both teams, there were only four shots total, two for each team and three corners, two for Gwynedd and one for Manhattanville.

The Griffins opened the second quarter with a much stronger offensive attack outshooting the Valiants 8-1 and having the upper hand in corners with two while Manhattanville had none. Gwynedd scored the lone goal of the second quarter just under three minutes in. The ball was put in the back of the cage by Mackenzie Reed with an assist from Ashley Berry. With one goal on the board, the Valiants stood strong on their defensive half not letting another goal in for the remainder of the half with seven more shot attempts from Gwynedd.

Manhattanville leveled the playing field six minutes into the second half. Senior defender, Alyssa Monahan (East Fishkill, NY/John Jay High School) scored with an assist from Julia Huertas (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) tying up the game 1-1. In an astonishing quick return, Gwynedd shot down the field pushing into the Valiants offensive half scoring 20 seconds later with a goal from Allyssa Seifert. With this goal, the Griffins jumped back on top with the score now standing at 2-1. Gwynedd held the advantage with corner penalties and shots, 4-1 against the Valiants for the third quarter.

Manhattanville held their own in the fourth quarter denying all eight shots faced. The Griffins also held a 5-2 penalty corner advantage over the Valiants in the scoreless fourth quarter to end the contest at 2-1.

Cat Morgan (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay Senior) started in goal for the Valiants earning three saves throughout her 45 minutes in the cage. Hannah Doherty (Clarkstown, N.Y./Clarkstown South) earned two saves in her fifteen minutes played in the cage.
