Women’s Hockey Falls in Conference Opener to Nazareth, 5-0

RYE, N.Y. - The Manhattanville University women's hockey team opened conference play Friday night, falling against Nazareth University 5-0. The Valiants now carry a 0-3-0 record to open the 2024-25 campaign.

Manhattanville struggled to generate any opportunities as the Golden Flyers soared strongly offensively through the game. The Valiants were outshot 46-8 in the contest. Freshman goaltender, Olivia Cimorelli (West Deptford, N.J.) stood as tall as she could in the crease collecting a total of 41 saves.

Nazareth unlatched their offensive presence just seconds into the first period. Scoring just 38 seconds into the game put the Golden Flyers up 1-0 immediately. Two more goals followed in the first period alone after Meredith Boettcher netted the first for Nazareth. Corsica Skibinski put the puck in the back of the net for goal number two seven minutes later. The third and final goal of the period came from Allie Zack on a power player five minutes after that.

Manhattanville was able to hold the Golden Flyers off for the entire second period as it was scoreless on both ends. There was a noticeably stronger offensive effort as five of the eight shots from the Valiants occurred in the second stanza alone. Five different Valiants had taken shots at Nazareth goaltender, McKinley Hoff, to conclude the second period.

The Golden Flyers ultimately extended their lead with two more back-to-back goals in the third and final period. Zack and Boettcher scored just 30 seconds in between each other making it two a piece to conclude their nights.

Catrina Chinetti (Hyde Park, Mass./Boston Latin Academy / East Coast Wizards) led Manhattanville in shots with two while six other Valiants had one a piece.

The Valiants also led the charge in faceoffs with 31 wins compared to the Golden Flyers 29. Annie Niedermier (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) led the squad with fourteen faceoff wins. Ali Joly (Pickering, Ontario, Canada/Dunbarton / Caledon Coyotes) recorded nine, Jada Mackinnon (Barrington, Nova Scotia, Canada/King's Edgehill School) had six and Chinetti had two.
