RYE, N.Y. - Squaring off in round two against Nazareth University puts the Manhattanville University hockey team at 0-4-0 overall to complete the weekend. With a breakout third period from the Golden Flyers, the final score of the contest resulted with the Valiants falling 4-0.
The game remained scoreless for two entire periods before numbers were put on the scoreboard this Saturday afternoon at the playland ice casino. The Valiants were able to hold the Golden Flyers off for two twenty-minute periods until they put four goals in the back of the net in the final stanza.
Nazareth scored two quick goals within a minute of each other to start the third period. At even strength, Brooke Terry of the Golden Flyers put the puck past freshman goaltender Olivia Cimorelli (West Deptford, N.J.) just two and a half minutes into the final period. Sydney Swanson scored just forty seconds later at the 3:16 mark making the score 2-0. Manhattanville was able to hold Nazareth off for four more minutes before scoring again at 7:09 from Sophia Pittis. The fourth and final goal of the contest came at the 13:14 mark from Abby Flanagen.
The Valiants had more shot opportunities this time around with seventeen total and nine different team members making their offensive presence known. Lillee Dougherty (Wakefield, R.I./Portsmouth Abbey School) led the charge with four shots total and closely behind with three were Harper Weisbeck (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) and Catrina Chinetti (Hyde Park, Mass./Boston Latin Academy / East Coast Wizards). Aly Joly added to the mix with two shots, while four other Valiants each put up one. Despite a stronger offensive effort from Manhattanville today, Nazareth was still able to put up four goals outshooting the Valiants 87-17.
Cimorelli put up an impressionable 43 saves in the circle despite being outshot significantly.
Annie Niedermier (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) led the squad in faceoff wins with ten. Jada Mackinnon (Barrington, Nova Scotia, Canada/King's Edgehill School) followed shortly behind with eight, and Joly added three to the mix.
