MacAskill Earns 50th Career Victory in 2-0 Win over Chatham

PITTSBURGH, PA – Head Coach Jennifer MacAskill earned her 50th career victory as the Manhattanville University women's hockey team earned their first win of the season on Friday against Chatham. The Valiants improve to 1-4-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the UCHC.

The Valiants controlled the pace of the first period scoring two goals less than 30 seconds apart. Catrina Chinetti (Hyde Park, Mass./Boston Latin Academy / East Coast Wizards) tallied her second goal of the season while Ali Joly (Pickering, Ontario, Canada/Dunbarton / Caledon Coyotes) scored her first. With limited shots overall in the first 20 minutes, the Valiants put nine toward the net while the Cougars had six. At the 6:14 mark, Chinetti scored her second goal of the season to snap Manhattanville's scoreless streak that neared 140 consecutive minutes. At even strength, the junior put the puck in the back of the net with assists from Lulu LePage (Swansea, Mass./Elmira College) and Taylor Willoughby (Camrose, Alberta, Canada/John Maland). Seconds later at the 6:28 mark, Aly Joly notched her first career goal with an unassisted strike to spot the visitors a 2-0 advantage.

Manhattanville put up an even stronger offensive effort having 17 shots in the second stanza while Chatham had six. With no goals allowed, these shots accounted for 17 saves for Cougars goaltender Sam Brophy and six saves for Valiants goaltender Jewells Austin (Bethlehem, Conn./Nonnewaug High School).

More of the same would unravel in the third period as Manhattanville tallied up 24 shots compared to the Cougars' one. The score would finalize at the end of regulation 2-0 from the action packed first period.

In the crease, Austin collected thirteen saves from thirteen total shots faced.

LePage led the charge in shots with ten total. Chinetti, Danika Aubin (Guy, Alberta, Canada/Northern Alberta Xtreme (CSSHL)), and Annie Niedermier (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) followed closely behind with six each. Eleven other Valiants added to the shot count totaling 50 at the end of the three periods.

Niedermier took over in the faceoff circle collecting 18 wins, the most on either side of the ice. Joly added nine more to the mix while Jada Mackinnon (Barrington, Nova Scotia, Canada/King's Edgehill School) tallied four.
