Cox Reaches Century Mark, Dougherty Logs First Career Tally as Women's Hockey Wins Eighth Straight

RYE, N.Y. – Opening up the final homestand of the year, the Manhattanville College women's hockey team continued their winning ways with a 4-2 triumph over Stevenson on Friday night. The Valiants improve to 11-9-2 overall with the win and stand 11-4-2 in UCHC play.

The win is Manhattanville's eighth in a row, the team's longest winning streak since the 2008-09 season when the team rattled off 12 straight victories.

A pair of career milestones were recorded in the win. With a three point night, Gabrielle Cox (Niverville, NY/Ichabod Crane High School) reached the 100 point mark for her career. The graduate forward has been a gamechanger in her three seasons at Manhattanville, now at 71 goals in her time in a Valiant sweater.

From one milestone celebrating a career of goal scoring to a Valiant lighting the lamp for the first time in their career, Lillee Dougherty (Wakefield, R.I./Portsmouth Abbey School) got her way into the goal column with her first college tally 15:48 into the first period.

Cox and Dougherty had the Valiants up 2-0 after the opening period. Cox fired home goal number 19 on the year from Grace Felicio (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional) at 9:31, capitalizing on a Stevenson tripping penalty that put the Valiants on their first power play of the night. Cox has now scored a power play goal in three straight games and now has 20 for her Valiant career, one shy of the program record. Dougherty would then add the insurance six minutes later from Catrina Chinetti (Hyde Park, Mass./Boston Latin Academy) and Lulu LePage (Swansea, Mass./Elmira College).

The Mustangs roared back in the second period to tie things up at 2-2 to head into the third. Meghan Croyle got the visiting team on the board at 3:45 before Abby Smith knotted the game even on a power play goal at 14:29. Despite outshooting Stevenson 13-8 in the period, the Valiants' response would have to wait until the third.

Manhattanville retook the lead on Cox's second of the night with Dougherty and LePage setting up the scoring chance at 3:43. Taylor Willoughby (Camrose, Alberta, Canada/John Maland) then reestablished the two goal lead on the Valiants' second power play goal of the night at 14:29, with Felicio and Cox nabbing the helpers, officially bringing Cox up to the century mark.

Franny Gerardi (Yonkers, N.Y./Selects Academy) got the win in the crease for Manhattanville, slamming the door shut after the second period by stopping all 14 shots she faced in the third. Gerardi made 25 total saves in the win, her eighth of the year, further lowering her goals-against average on the season to 2.28 with a .932 save percentage.

The Valiants won 23 of the game's 44 faceoffs. Annie Niedermier (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) led the team's effort with 11 wins, followed by six from Felicio.

Manhattanville finished 2-for-4 on the power play, logging eight total shots. Stevenson went 1-for-2 with two shots on target.
