PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College men's tennis team was defeated on Monday afternoon by visiting Division II opponent Dominican University by a final of 6-1. The Valiants wrap up their interdivision slate 0-2 after previously dropping their match against St. Thomas Aquinas back in February.
With the discrepancy between divisions, double play counted as a single point for the final score. The Valiants were awarded the win on Court 3 due to the Chargers not having enough players to fill out a third doubles pairing, giving
Carter Hunter-Crump (Denver, Colo./Centaurus) and
Griffin Forberg (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Ludlowe) the win by default. Dominican would claim the doubles point despite the disadvantage, as the team of Ali Zizi and Jorge Catala defeated
James Hourihan (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) and
Weston Goodwin (Freeport, Maine/Freeport) in the top flight 6-1.
Shiel Loganadan (New York, N.Y./Mary McDowell Friends) and
Derwin Guzman (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglass Academy) were bested by the same score on Court Two by Qalib Ladhani and Leonhard Fleisch.
The Chargers took all five singles matches that the fielded a player for, once again surrendering a point with Hunter-Crump taking the No. 6 showing by default. Guzman and Hourihan were bested on Courts 4 and 1 respectively by Fleisch and Zizi,1-6, 1-6. Goodwin fell in No. 2 play to Catala, 2-6, 2-6, before Forberg dropped a 3-6. 1-6 decision to Ander Cantero Sadaba on Court 5. The final action to wrap up was in the No. 3 flight, with Loganadan giving Ladhani all he could handle. The senior battled hard before ultimately dropping to match 4-6, 5-7.
