BRONX, N.Y. – Playing for the second time in as many days, the Manhattanville College men's tennis team was defeated in an intra-division match on Wednesday at Division I Fordham. The 7-0 loss moves the Valiants to 1-3 on the season.
Despite the divisional difference, the Valiants had some solid efforts against the Division I Rams. In the top doubles flight,
Weston Goodwin (Freeport, Maine/Freeport) and
James Hourihan (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) were able to take a pair of games in the 2-8 loss to Giorgio Soemarno and Dhillon Virdee-Oakley.
Shiel Loganadan (New York, N.Y./Mary McDowell Friends) and
Derwin Guzman (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglass Academy) battled in a 3-8 loss to Nick Mueller and Nicholas Kanazirev on Court 2, while the pairing of
Griffin Forberg (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Ludlowe) and
Carter Hunter-Crump (Denver, Colo./Centaurus) fell to John Mascone and Cristian Ramos 1-8 in No. 3 action.
Hunter-Crump has the strongest showing in singles action as he took a set in No. 6 play against Ramos. The Valiant freshman won the opening frame 6-2 before falling 3-6. In a tightly-fought breaker, Hunter-Crump came up just short, falling 10-12.
Loganadan and Forberg were bested in a pair of 1-6, 1-6 decisions on the No. 3 and No. 4 courts, respectively. Goodwin was toppled by Soemarno 1-6, 0-6 in the No. 2 flight, while Hourihan fell 0-6, 0-6 to Mueller on the show court while Guzman suffered an identical fate on Court 5 against Stefan Stojanovic.
