MRYTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Manhattanville baseball team notched their second straight win in the Ripken Experience, taking down Colby-Sawyer, 17-3, in seven inning-run rule fashion. With the win, the Valiants now sit at 2-1 with one more contest to go down in South Carolina.Â
The Valiants took the lead early in the contest, and would never relinquish it back, as Gregory Tashik (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park Jr./Sr.) doubled in the leadoff spot, eventually making his way around the bases to plate the first run of the contest for Manhattanville. The sophomore turned in a career day in his second year of college ball, finishing with a game-high four hits on five plate appearances, totaling four runs batted in. Mike Ambrosecchia (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) reached base on a wild pitch, advancing all the way around the diamond on two consecutive wild pitches to eventually score on a sacrifice fly to the center field off the bat off Marco Clara (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset), taking the 2-0 lead.Â
Manhattanville would continue to add to their lead, as Tashik produced a sacrifice fly in his second at-bat, plating Deven Silva (Yonkers, N.Y./Mount Saint Michael Academy). Jordan Wazolek (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) swiped second base to put himself in scoring position and did just that on a Jackson Branigan (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) single up the middle, pushing the Valiant lead to four. Branigan would advance to second on a wild pitch, setting up Ambrosecchia to bring him home on the second-straight single up the middle, giving Manhattanville a 5-0 lead as the game headed into the bottom of the second.Â
In the top of the third, the Valiants would add on two more runs, pushing the total to seven, as Joe Kearney (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) flew out to right field on a sacrifice fly, bringing home Braden Kunda (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester). Anthony Caputo (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) would score in the next at-bat, touching the plate thanks to an error by the Chargers, allowing Wazolek to reach first safely. Colby-Sawyer would attempt to cut into the lead built by the Valiants, plating three straight runs in the bottom of the third, from a fielder's choice and back-to-back singles, bringing the contest to 7-3, and ending the day for Myles Durney (Port Chester, N.Y./Port Chester). The graduate student pitched two and two thirds, allowing three runs on just three hits, and totaling six strikeouts.Â
Manhattanville would answer back in a big way, putting up a four spot in the top fourth, from a base opportunity. Justin Encarnacion (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) would reach first from a fielding error by the opposing second baseman, seeing Ambrosecchia score. Kunda would advance home on a wild pitch, as Wazolek walked loading all the ducks on the pond. Tashik drove in two runs on a double down the left field line, as Encarnacion and Silva scored, pinning the contest out of reach for their counterparts, 11-3.Â
The Valiants would put up another crooked number in the next inning, plating four runs in the top fifth, as Anthony Pressimone (Bronx, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) drove in two runs thanks to an error by the right fielder, eventually leading to Pressimone taking home from a wild pitch. Branigan would help bring home Wazolek from second base, by dint of a misplay from the shortstop.Â
Tashik would top off his day with a triple to left center in the top of the seventh inning, plating Michael Musantry (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac), with Branigan bringing home Tashik thanks to a throwing error by the shortstop, seeing the scoreboard read a 17-3 Valiant Victory.Â
Joseph Lacoparra (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) collected the win for the Valiants, pitching one and one-third innings in middle relief, sitting down all four batters faced on fifteen pitches with two strikeouts. This made way for TJ Fuerst (Purchase, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) who shut the door on the Chargers, going three innings in relief, striking out five and only allowing one hit.Â
Following Tashik's four hit performance, Ambrosecchia went 2-for-5, making his way safely around the bases twice. He was flanked by Kunda, who hit 2-for-3 with two walks and swiping three bags. All told, twenty-four Valiants touched the field in the contest.Â
