Men's Tennis Earns Win Over Purchase on Rainy Saturday Afternoon

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Battling the rain in addition to their neighboring rivals from the other side of Anderson Hill Road, the Manhattanville University men's tennis team defeated Purchase 7-1 in Saturday's Skyline Conference match. The Valiants improve to 4-3 overall and 2-0 in Skyline Conference play following the win.

The Valiants jumped out to a 2-1 start to the match by earning wins in No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Shiel Loganadan (New York, N.Y./Mary McDowell Friends) and Derwin Guzman (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglass Academy) made quick work of Oliver Culliton and Andrew Agosto in the No. 3 flight with an 8-0 sweep, while James Hourihan (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) and Weston Goodwin (Freeport, Maine/Freeport) won the top flight over Suleyman Eminov and Yuta Kawamura, 8-3. Griffin Forberg (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Ludlowe) and Carter Hunter-Crump (Denver, Colo./Centaurus) battled hard in the No. 2 showing, dropping a 6-8 marathon affair to Eli Palagatshev and Steve Mains.

Manhattanville won all five singles draws that were able to be completed before rain moved back in to once again interfere with a spring sporting event. Hunter-Crump logged a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Frederick Kaden in No. 5 Singles as the first match to finish. Guzman followed soon after with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Pedro Llonch-Vidalle in the No. 6 flight. It was an identical result for Forberg over Mains on Court No. 3, while Goodwin defeated Kawamura 6-1, 6-1. Loganadan collected the final point of the match for the Valiants as he defeated Culliton 6-0, 7-5. Hourihan dropped the first set in the top flight to Palagatshev 2-6 and fought to a 4-4 score in the second before the inclement weather brought an early end to the match.
