NEW YORK, N.Y. – Competing at historic Billie Jean King Tennis Center, the Manhattanville University men's tennis team defeated Yeshiva, 8-1, in Monday's Skyline Conference match. With the win. the Valiants improve to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
Play began with the Valiants taking two of the three doubles draws. James Hourihan (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) and Weston Goodwin (Freeport, Maine/Freeport) made quick work of David Cattan and Leo Rahmey in the top flight with an 8-1 win, while Shiel Loganadan (New York, N.Y./Mary McDowell Friends) and Derwin Guzman (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglass Academy) won the No. 2 slot over Jacob Pfeifer and Harry Radinsky, 8-4. Griffin Forberg (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Ludlowe) and Carter Hunter-Crump (Denver, Colo./Centaurus) were locked in for a back-and-forth battle with Mark Adler and Israel Bussu, ultimately dropping a 6-8 marathon affair.
Manhattanville won all five singles flights to close out the night. In the No. 1 singles position, Goodwin logged a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Cattan. It would then be a tight matchup for Hourihan at the No. 2 slot, defeating Pfeifer 1-6, 6-4, 10-6 through a three-set match. Forberg followed with a 6-3, 6-7 tiebreaker, 10-8 victory in the No. 3 slot over Adler. At No. 4 singles, Loganadan dominated with a 6-3, 6-2 win, while Guzman won 6-0, 7-5 in the No. 5 singles flight. Hunter-Crump tallied the final point for the Valiants winning a 6-3, 6-4 No. 6 singles match over Isaac Betesh.
The Valiants will be back on their home courts on Tuesday, Apr. 16 at 4 p.m. as they continue Skyline Conference play against St. Joseph's Long Island.
