PURCHASE, N.Y. – Bouncing back from yesterday's conference losses, the Manhattanville University baseball team scored 14 runs across both ends of Sunday's doubleheader against Saint Elizabeth. With the sweep, the Valiants improved to 11-14 on the season.
Game One Recap: Manhattanville 7, Saint Elizabeth 1
It would be a dominate showing on the diamond for the Valiants in the matinee of Sunday's doubleheader, scoring seven runs on nine hits and a pair of errors from the Eagles.
The Valiants would score a pair of runs early in the first inning off a double to center field from Jake Parisi (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach), bringing Deven Silva (Yonkers, N.Y./Mount Saint Michael Academy) home. Parisi then stole third and scored on a throwing error by the Eagles' catcher.
In the second inning, Saint Elizabeth got their first run on the board off an RBI single from Ryan Deal.
Manhattanville capitalized on their lead in the third inning, as Chris Goohs (Nesconset, N.Y./Smithtown H.S. East) recorded an RBI single to left field.
Goohs would go on to hit an RBI double to left field in the fifth inning as Jackson Branigan (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) then singled to right field for an RBI single. It would be a 5-1 Valiants lead heading into the sixth inning.
Michael Musantry (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) closed out the game in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run home run, the second of his senior season.
Offensively, Musantry has had one of the best weekends of his career, totaling two runs on two hits and two RBI. Parisi followed behind with two runs on two hits and one RBI as Goohs tallied one run on two hits and two RBI.
Ryan Osso (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester) earned his first win of the season after pitching a full seven-innings for the Valiants. He gave up only one earned run on seven hits with a pair of walks and two strikeouts.
Game One Recap: Manhattanville 7, Saint Elizabeth 5
The doubleheader finale would be a back-and-forth battle between the Valiants and Eagles. Marco Clara (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) got Manhattanville on the board first with a sacrifice fly in the first inning as Saint Elizabeth responded with an unearned RBI single to left field from Alexia Jorge.
In the second inning, Anthony Pressimone (Bronx, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) would hit a solo home run to left field which would be the first of his collegiate career, and the second homer on the day for the Valiants.
The Eagles took their first lead of the afternoon with a pair of runs scoring off a fielding error by the Manhattanville shortstop. Saint Elizabeth's taking a 3-2 lead heading into the bottom of the third. The Valiants took back a one run lead, 4-3 after one run coming home off a wild pitch followed by an RBI single for Pressimone.
Manhattanville would rally in the sixth with an RBI single through the left side for Anthony Mezzaucella (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) and then another wild pitch run scoring before an RBI single to right field for Clara. The Valiants took a sturdy 7-3 lead going into the final frame of the day.

In the seventh inning, the Eagles had themselves a bit of a comeback, scoring two runs off a wild pitch and then a single up the middle for Gabe Castro. The Valiant would retire the side with a pair of fly outs and a strikeout to secure the Sunday sweep.
Rookie Billy Anema (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) would earn the first win of his young career, pitching 4.2 innings of relief. He gave up four runs on six hits while walking three and striking out three. Joseph Lacoparra (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) earned the save, pitching the seventh inning with one hit and one strikeout.
The Valiants finish out their home slate tomorrow as they take on New Jersey City at 3:30 p.m.
