Men's Tennis Sweeps Pratt For Sixth-Straight Win

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Back at the USTA National Tennis Center for the second time this week, the Manhattanville University men's tennis team earned its sixth-straight win on Saturday with a 9-0 sweep of the Pratt Institute. The Valiants improve to 7-3 overall with the victory.

Match play opened with the Valiants taking all three doubles flights against the Cannoneers. In the top flight, James Hourihan (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) and Weston Goodwin (Freeport, Maine/Freeport) teamed up to take down Mikah Liu and Mehul Bhargava, 8-3. Carter Hunter-Crump (Denver, Colo./Centaurus) and Derwin Guzman (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglass Academy) bested Ryan Nelsen and Calder Tillinghast 8-4 in No. 2 play, while Shiel Loganadan (New York, N.Y./Mary McDowell Friends) and Griffin Forberg (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Ludlowe) took care of business in the No. 3 flight over Caleb Callahan and Brian Duval, 8-3.

Singles action was played under the same scoring as doubles, with each flight being a one-set, eight game contest. The Valiants logged four 8-1 victories in the singles action to continue their strong play from the earlier pairings. Loganadan was the first to earn his 8-1 win, defeating Callahan on the No. 5 court. Hunter-Crump followed soon after with an 8-3 win over Shrenik Mahaveer in the No. 6 showdown. Forberg knocked off Tillinghast 8-1 in the No. 4s, before the closest singles draw came to a close in the No. 3 slot, with Guzman downing Nelsen, 8-4. Goodwin and Hourihan closed out the sweep with a pair of 8-1 victories over Bhargava and Liu, respectively, in the No. 1 and No. 2 flights.
