PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Taking the trip up to Plattsburgh, the Manhattanville men's soccer team dropped their first contest against Plattsburgh, 5-0, in the 2024 season kickoff.
In the first half, the Cardinals controlled the game in both halves of the field of play, as they totaled eleven shots, six of which were on target, holding their counterparts to only three shots with one on target. Manhattanville started off their campaign collecting the ball from their own net, as the Cardinals Modou Badjie fed a ball into a darting Xavier Kamba, having Kamba slot it past a sliding netminder for the first tally of the contest. Fourteen minutes later, Plattsburgh would strike again with Badjie getting on the board thanks to goal of his own, pushing the contest to 2-0 in the Cards favors. All told, the Cardinals outshot the Valiants 11-3, producing six shots on goal.
As the second half kicked off, more of the same unfolded on the pitch. In the 59th minute, Kamba found the head of teammate John Hayes, having the scoreboard show a three-goal lead for the Cardinals. Plattsburgh would add on a fourth goal in the final five minutes of the contest with Tristan Laundree, having Kamba find his fourth point of the match. A penalty kick in the 90th minute showed the final score residing at 5-0.
Lucas Fernandez (Stamford, Conn./Stamford) paced the offensive output for the Valiants, registering two shots with one on-goal.
Mason Chetti (Ronkonoma, N.Y./Connetquot) followed suit with one shot of his own.
Jake Rothluebbers (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union High School) totaled all ninety minutes between the pipes, tallying four saves.
