SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - The Manhattanville University field hockey team fell to Mount Holyoke on Tuesday evening, 4-0. Completing back-to-back games in Massachusetts, the result brings their overall record to 0-4.
The Lyons recorded two tallies in the second quarter and one a piece in the following third and fourth quarters. With this being their second meeting ever, the Lyons have earned the win in both meetings with the Valiants
The Valiants were outshot 17-2 in the contest, with Holyoke also holding an 8-2 penalty corner advantage. With the Lyons dominating possession all night, the home team broke through with an unrelenting attack.
Facing a scoreless first quarter, Manhattanville put up a strong defensive effort facing four shots in the first 15 minutes. Mount Holyoke opened the second quarter strong scoring just two minutes in. Junior forward, Jayonna Montigny recorded both her first goal of the season and of the game. A short three minutes later came the second goal from freshman Emily Bisson off of a penalty corner. The final two goals came from junior Sophia Guziewicz, with one tally in the third and the last in the forth.
Alyssa Damore (Pawling, N.Y./Pawling) logged the only two shots for the Valiants the entire contest.
Cat Morgan (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay Senior) started in goal for Manhattanville, accumulating ten saves and surrendering three goals in in the game. Lidia Vasquez-Sinisi (Selden, N.Y./Newfield) entered the contest for the final 15 minutes and collected one save.
