Men's Soccer Toppled by New Paltz Attack, 4-1

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Playing their final game ahead of next week's Skyline Conference opener, the Manhattanville University men's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision against New Paltz on Sunday afternoon. The Valiants fall to 2-4-1 overall with the loss.

The Hawks netted the lone goal of the first half, forcing the Valiants to attempt to play catchup the rest of the day. Bryan Lizama found the netting in the 21st minute to put New Paltz up 1-0 on a day where the visiting squad dominated the offensive opportunities. New Paltz outshot Manhattanville 20-14 overall on the day and held a 12-4 shot on goal margin.

New Paltz added two more tallies in the second half before the Valiants got on the board. Alex Wyant doubled the Hawks' lead off an assist from Brian Boylan in the 60th minute, while a Brandon Dhanoolal strike in the 74th by way of Ryan Zindler put Manhattanville in a 3-0 hole. The Valiants broke up the shutout in the 83rd minute as Lucas Fernandez (Stamford, Conn./Stamford) fired a shot home for his second goal of the season off a feed from Nico Del Vescovo (Flanders, N.J./Mount Olive). The assist was Del Vescovo's first point of the season.

The Hawks added an insurance goal with just over two minutes to play with Lizama recording his second score of the day, this time from an assist by Colin Brant.

Jake Rothluebbers (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union High School) faced a flurry of shots in net for the Valiants. The senior finished a season-high eight saves in the loss.

Demba Cham (Bronx, NY/World View High School) and Keanu Stingone (Kew Gardens, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) found the most offensive opportunities for Manhattanville on the day, both logging three shot attempts. Mason Chetti (Ronkonoma, N.Y./Connetquot) accounted for a team-high two shots on goal, while Stingone also put one ball on target.

Both teams had six corner kick opportunities. A game that got chippy as time went on, 30 total fouls were called alongside nine total yellow cards being handed out.
