Men’s Soccer Notches Third-Straight Victory with 2-1 Win Over UMSV

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - For the third straight time to open conference play, the Manhattanville University men's soccer team defeated their foe, this time Mount Saint Vincent, 3-1, on Tuesday night. With the result, the Valiants now reside at 5-4-, with a spotless 3-0-0 record in conference action.

Manhattanville started off the contest down on the scoreboard for the first time in conference play this season, with freshman phenomenon Javier Trujillo netting his eighth goal of the season in the 31st minute, putting the Dolphins ahead, 1-0. Jostyn Blanco (Norwalk, Conn./Brien Mcmahon High School) would find the equalizer later in the first half, as just before the halftime whistle blew, Blanco continued his scorching-hot stretch, rippling the netting for his fourth tally of the year. The score would stand at one apiece as the contest headed into the break.

Shortly after resuming play, the Valiants would open the second stanza with a goal, when frontman Nico Del Vescovo (Flanders, N.J./Mount Olive) found freshman midfielder Kenneth Suqui (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y./Sleepy Hollow), for the second tally of his career and the second goal of the match for the Valiants. Manhattanville would continue to keep the press on, firing off four shots, three of which were on goal, in the final ten minutes of the match with efforts coming from Blanco and Mason Chetti (Ronkonoma, N.Y./Connetquot). The final score would show to be a Valiant victory, 2-1, with Suqui's tally proving to be the difference maker.

Graduate Luis Granados (Pasadena, Calif./St. Francis) started between the pipes for Manhattanville, totaling all ninety minutes played on the line.

The Valiants and the Dolphins sat deadlocked in the shots department, 13 apiece, but Manhattanville held the advantage in shots on goal, 7-1. Chetti paced the offensive for Manhattanville with seven shots, followed by Demba Cham (Bronx, NY/World View High School), Blanco, Suqui, and Joseph Kresse (Goshen, NY/Goshen High School)
