PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Manhattanville University women's tennis team remains undefeated in conference play with another tally in the win column. Just coming off a win against Yeshiva this past Sunday, the Valiants earned their fourth straight 5-2 victory. This win brings Manhattanville to an overall record of 5-1.
The Valiants opened the match by earning the first point with wins from the No. 1 and No. 2 courts. The doubles matches went down in order finishing 1,2,3. Teaming up for the first time this season, Amaya Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) and Suzi Doyle (Devon, England/Exeter College) defeated contenders Amelia Perlmutter and Olivia Menchell 6-1. Finishing next was also a newly paired duo, Adrianna Filippelli (Mastic, N.Y./William Floyd) and Addison-Mercedes Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services). The No.2 court bested Emma Arnaud and Novalie Nguyen 6-2. Finishing last was the third court where Sara King (Schenectady, N.Y./Scotia-Glenville) and Mikhalia Grant (Montego Bay, Jamaica/New Visions Charter High School for Advanced Math and Science II) were bested by Katelin Smith and Sierra Blanco, 6-2.
Keeping the order in singles that they have all season, Filippelli finished first for Manhattanville on the No.3 court against Arnaud. She won a clean match 6-0, 6-0. Doyle finished next on the No. 2 court defeating Menchell 6-1, 6-0. Grant followed up finishing third for the Valiants losing 6-1, 6-1. Addison-Mercedes Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) finished fourth on the fourth court prevailing over Nguyen 6-1, 6-2. Amaya Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) found herself in a closer match than her cohorts. Winning the first set in a close tiebreak 7-5, the second and final set was won with more ease capping off 6-0. The final match of the day was delivered on court five. King was outlasted by Blanco ultimately losing 6-4, 7-6, and 10-6 in a tiebreak.
