MADISON, N.J. - The Manhattanville University field hockey team fell to Drew on Wednesday evening, after the Rangers scored five goals throughout the contest. With the loss, the Valiants are knocked down to an 0-2 start to the season start while non-conference play continues. Â
Drew scored the first two of their five in the first quarter, two more in the third and the final one in the fourth. Senior Rangers took over the game as Janelle Arch scored three while fellow compatriots Tyler Olivio and Lauren Cagliostro each scored one. The Valiants were outshot 26-3 for the entire contest. Â
Drew came out strong offensively, scoring just two minutes into the game. This marked Olivio's first goal of the season. Twelve minutes into the first came another goal, this time from Cagliostro. These were their first and last goals of the night. Â
Manhattanville demonstrated a strong defensive endeavor as there were no goals scored in the second quarter. Â
Arch scored the three final goals for the Rangers, as her first goal was tipped in on the left side of the cage. Her second was delivered low on the inside far post, and the third, and final, was scored on the bottom left side. Â
Despite five total goals, the defensive effort from Manhattanville was unmatched showcasing their backline to the fullest. Â
Graduate goalkeeper Cat Morgan (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay Senior) made eleven saves in her 43 minutes in the cage, compiling 21 saves on the season so far. Â
Alyssa Monahan (East Fishkill, NY/John Jay High School) led the Valiants in shots with two throughout the 60 minutes. Sophomore Taylor Benedetto (East Yaphank, N.Y./William Floyd) had the third and final shot for Manhattanville. Â
