PURCHASE, N.Y. — Manhattanville University's women's tennis team had two players selected as top players this past week in the Skyline Conference Weekly Report Monday morning.
Player of the Week-
Amaya Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) has been quite the dominant force for the Valiants. Last week against Farmingdale State College she sat in seed one for doubles with her partner Adrianna Filippelli (Mastic, N.Y./William Floyd) earning a hard fought 6-2 point. Later in the singles matches, she sat in the second seed earning another point off a 6-2, 6-2 winning finish.
Later in the week against Bard College she posted again in the first seed with Jenifer Lalman (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady) securing a 6-4 win earning a Valiants point. She then sat second seed in singles battling for a 7-6(7-5), 6-0 point.
Ortiz continues to be a crucial points leader for the Valiants going deeper into conference play.
Rookie of the Week-
Jenifer Lalman (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady) generated a wondrous effort to help push the Valiants towards the win column. During their Farmingdale State College match she sat seed two for doubles with Addison Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) coming up short 2-6 against the Rams. Later on however during the singles, she reclaimed her point, being seeded fourth and earning the point after a 6-1, 5-7, 1-0(10-8) battle.
Against Bard College she came back swinging, sitting in seed one for doubles with Amaya Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) securing the 6-4 win and again making her mark in seed four for singles, winning her match 6-2, 6-0.
Lalman has proven her reliability and power on the court. As one of two freshmen on the team this year, she has continually proven her spot as a Valiant.
