PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville University women's tennis team gained sole possession of second place in the Skyline Conference standings follow a 6-1 victory at Saint Joseph's Long Island on Wednesday night. The Valiants improve to 6-2 overall and hold a 4-1 record in conference play.
Manhattanville swept all three doubles flights to capture the opening point.
Amaya Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) and
Jenifer Lalman (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady) handled business on the show court with a 6-4 victory over Natalie Kopala and Victoria Corcoran, while
Adrianna Filippelli (Mastic, N.Y./William Floyd) and
Addison Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) notched a 6-1 win against Amanda Andree and Allison Goodyear in No. 2s. Over on the No. 3 court, it was the pairing of
Maria Gutierrez (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) and
Bianca Reyna (Yonkers, N.Y./Roosevelt) defeating senior tandem Rose Ruopoli and Morgan Wind, 6-2.
The Ortiz sisters were the first to pick up victories in solo action, with Amaya winning 6-0, 6-1 against Goodyear in the No. 2 flight and Addison blanking Corcoran 6-0, 6-0 in No. 3s. Filippelli then took down Kopala in the No. 1 showing, 6-0, 6-3.
Lalman and Gutierrez put the finishing touches on the Valiant win, with the rookie Lalman defeating Andree 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 4 flight ahead of Gutierrez' 6-0, 7-6 (7-2) win over Win in No. 5s. The Goldean Eagles got on the board with a win in the No. 6 flight as Reyna fell to Ruopoli, 4-6, 5-7.
