Women's Tennis Sweeps Mount Saint Mary to Secure Top-Two Seed

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville University women's tennis team clinched one of the top two seeds for the Skyline Conference Championship Tournament on Thursday evening as the Valiants swept Mount Saint Mary, 7-0. The Valiants improve to 7-2 overall and 5-1 in conference play, officially securing a first round home match in next week's tournament starting on Wednesday.

Manhattanville didn't drop a set in the win, opening the match with victories in all three doubles flights. Amaya Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) and Jenifer Lalman (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady) opened play with a 6-0 sweep of Autumn Strobach and Megan Mann in the No. 1 flight. Maria Gutierrez (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) and Bianca Reyna (Yonkers, N.Y./Roosevelt) took the win in No. 3 play, defeating Maria Benicio-Ventura and Jaily Sebestian, 6-1. Addison Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) and Adrianna Filippelli (Mastic, N.Y./William Floyd) closed out duos, defeating Angelina Mainiero and Peyton Curley by a score of 6-2 on the No. 2 court.

Reyna began the singles sweeps with her first solos victory since Oct. 4, blanking Sebestian 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 flight. Addison Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) took down Curley 6-1, 6-0 in No. 3s ahead of Gutierrez's 6-1, 6-2 win over Benicio-Ventura in the No. 5 clash. Filippelli defeated Strobach 6-3, 6-2 in the top flight before rookie standout Lalman improved to 9-0 in singles play on the season with a 6-2, 6-0 win against Mann on the No. 4 court. Amaya Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) wrapped up the sweep by finishing the day with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Mainiero in the No. 2 tilt.
