PURCHASE, N.Y. – Women's tennis' Amaya Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) and men's soccer's AJ Lucas (Beacon, N.Y./Beacon) grab Valiants of the Week title for the week of Oct 12 through Oct 19.
AMAYA ORTIZ – WOMEN'S TENNIS
Ortiz, along with doubles partner Jenifer Lalman (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady), started the scoring for tennis' 7-0 wipe of Sarah Lawrence. The Bronx native went on to take the first set on the singles court before taking the matchup via retirement, going towards the Valiants' sweep over the Gryphons.
Amaya returns home with the No. 2 Valiants to host No. 3 Saint Joseph's Long Island on Wednesday for the first round of the Skyline Conference Championship.
AJ LUCAS – MEN'S SOCCER
The Beacon native held strong in the net for the Valiants' senior day victory over Maritime, 1-0. Keeping the Privateers scoreless, Lucas posted two saves, bringing his save percentage up to .707 and securing his third straight shutout in goal.
Lucas leads his team into their last regular season home game on Wednesday, October 22, at 6 PM against the University of Mount Saint Vincent.
